Artist Statement
The Paintslinger has held a long-time fascination with everything art. They have explored everything from ceramics, welding, and sculpture to textiles, costume, and accessory design.
Currently, they are focusing on a combination of paintings, illustrations, and costumes that tie in her love of fringe or perhaps contra-culture, body modification/dis-morphia, eroticism, and social sciences.

Drawings & Illustration
Emerald’s love of tattooing and comic books shows through in her illustrations and drawings. She combines her signature stretched and exagerrated body forms with bold outlines and color, creating a vivid world of strange happenings.
Costumes & Accessories
Emerald brings her drawings to life using textiles and wearable sculpture. After studying costuming at Saint Mary’s University Emerald launched a costume and accessories line under the project name Freudian Slip. This collection features custom costuming, fascinators, and rave and cosplay wear.
Just who is this Paintslinger?
Emerald Hulsing, A.K.A. The Paintslinger, is an accomplished artist operating out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. She often travels to other locations for work, leisure, and inspiration.
Emerald creates artwork that is distinct and compelling. Much of her work is created to express evocative ideas.
She also does a large number of commissions, of realistic and fantastical subject matter, in a variety of media.
The artwork and costume work shown on this website represents only a small amount of the work that Emerald has done over the last two decades.
